Lake Layout & Key Structure

Western basin = walleye gold (mud flats, reef complexes, the Bass Islands). Central basin = bigger fish, deeper trolling patterns. Wind dictates everything — check NOAA wave forecast before launching; western basin gets dangerous above 15 mph.

Money spots: Western Basin reefs (Niagara Reef, Camp Perry), Pelee Island, Lorain shoreline

Seasonal Walleye Tactics

🌱 Spring (Ice-out – June)

March-April walleyes shallow 8-14 ft on western basin reefs, jig + minnow.

☀️ Summer (June – August)

Walleyes troll harnesses behind dipsy divers 18-30 ft suspended in basin. Smallmouth on reef edges 14-22 ft, tubes and drop-shot.

🍂 Fall (September – Ice-up)

Fall trolling with cranks 20-32 ft for trophy walleyes.

🧊 Winter (Ice fishing)

Ice walleyes hit mid-lake humps and break edges 18-28 ft.

Regulations: Ohio: walleye limit 6 daily, 15-inch minimum. Yellow perch limit 30 daily. Trolling is most efficient.
Local tip: Wind dictates everything. Check NOAA wave forecast. Western basin gets dangerous fast above 15 mph.
