Summer Walleye Fishing Patterns

Early Summer (June)

Post-spawn fish recovering on first-break flats. Mayfly hatch flips bite for 3 days. Spinner rigs + crawlers at 1.2 mph.

Mid Summer (July)

Thermocline locks in. Walleyes hold just above it on humps + breaks. 12-22 ft typical. Crankbaits + bottom-bouncers.

Late Summer (August)

Hot water + heavy boat traffic = night bite dominates. 3-8 ft shallow at night on points and weed edges.

The Mid-Lake Hump Pattern

Find a main-lake hump topping out at 12-18 ft. Walleyes circle the perimeter. Spinner rigs cover water fast; once you mark them, switch to vertical jig.

Top Summer Lakes

Mille Lacs (mud edges), Leech Lake (humps + reefs), Lake Vermilion (rock), Lake Winnibigoshish (mud basin). Iowa Great Lakes for variety.
