Lake Layout & Key Structure

Mid-lake basin holds the deepest water and summer thermocline. Rocky points and humps. Smith Bay and Miller's Bay hold most spring walleyes. Triboji and Gull Point on the west side are reef gold.

Money spots: West Okoboji: Pillsbury Point rocks, Anglers Bay grass, Smith Bay; East Okoboji: south channel

Seasonal Walleye Tactics

🌱 Spring (Ice-out – June)

Post-spawn walleyes 4-12 ft on west-side rock points, jig + minnow.

☀️ Summer (June – August)

West Okoboji walleyes 22-32 ft on deep rock humps, jig + crawler vertical. Smallmouth on shallow rock 8-14 ft, tubes. Muskies cruise weedlines 8-16 ft.

🍂 Fall (September – Ice-up)

October walleyes on the deepest holes 35-50 ft, live-bait rig with leech.

🧊 Winter (Ice fishing)

Ice walleyes hit mid-lake humps and break edges 18-28 ft.

Regulations: Iowa walleye limit 3 fish daily, 15-inch minimum. Continuous open season.
Local tip: Deep, clear lake. Use lighter line (8-10 lb fluoro), natural colors. Fish vertical when over deep structure.
